Norvel & Warren Benoit

live just 15 minutes south of New Orleans, Louisiana, on the grounds of the former Ormond Plantation among lovely moss draped, majestic oak trees. Their neighbors are the famous Louisiana swamps abundant with both alligators & some very interesting wildlife.  The heat index in New Orleans is often over 100 degrees so all their Danes reside indoors all the time. They can romp the grounds chasing squirrels & opossum early morning & late evening and enjoy a brisk daily swim to get their fitness work-out in a climate controlled swimming pool.

Warren was born in West Germany, became a US citizen in the 1960s, and met Norvel while shooting pool at college. Today they own Benoit & Associates, an insurance agency, with soliciting agents in 44 states. Warren is past Chairman of Goodwill Industries, former American Red Cross Chapter Chairman, having served on the National level working with Elizabeth Dole. Warren has served as Louisiana Kennel Club’s Delegate to American Kennel Club and is a past Board Member for the Great Dane Club of America. He is the former President of the Kenner Optimist Club & currently serves on the Board of Directors for Lakeside Hospital, on the Louisiana State Insurance Education Advisory Board (a Senate approved position), past President of Orleans Regional Technical College & Chairman of Region I Vocational Education, was on the founding Board & served as past President of National Association of Professional Enroller Specialists/N.A.P.E.S. and member of the Krewe of Endymion Mardi Gras organization. Warren was appointed to the Louisiana Health Care Commission and served for many years as an Officer for local animal education clubs and rescue organizations. In 1993, Warren served as the Futurity Chairman for the Great Dane Club of America, Inc. and in 2004 he served as the Show Chairman for the National Specialty Show of the Great Dane Club of America.  He is now a licensed American Kennel Club judge and serves on the Board of the Great Dane Club of America, Inc.

Norvel is a licensed real estate broker in Louisiana and together with Warren they buy, sell, renovate and manage real estate holdings.  Norvel is a native New Orleanian with a fondness for the unique culture & hospitality found in the Deep South. Norvel grew up exhibiting American Saddlebred show horses & working as an equitation instructor. Norvel is locally active in fund-raising & rescue education for animals and has served as an Officer/Board Member for the Louisiana S.P.C.A., Great Dane Club of Louisiana, Louisiana Kennel Club, as Show Chairman numerous times and assists national rescue networking. Norvel served in 1993 as Futurity Chairmen for the Great Dane Club of America, Inc.  and was the Divisional Chairperson for the Great Dane Club of America's 2004 National Specialty Show.  Currently, Norvel is the GDCA's Historical Chairperson. She is licensed by the American Kennel Club to judge Great Danes and has authored a booklet about Great Dane breeders which is on file in the American Kennel Club Archives.
